Designing a Great Urban Neighborhood

For this particular assignment, I worked on a team of three. We were assigned a 55-acre parcel of land located off of Shelton Mill Road in Auburn, AL. We were then given five different building types, and were asked to design a walkable neighborhood based on the sizes and styles of these buildings. The end goal was to create a diverse neighborhood design that incorporated a mixture of residential and mixed-use buildings as well as civic spaces.
The project criteria dictated that we had to indicate lots, sidewalks and paved streets. Every 300' to 500' we were required to have a break in the number of houses so that there could be a street or intersection, which contributed to making the neighborhood very walkable. We were also required to leave an alley behind each home where cars could park and access their homes. The project was completed at the scale of 1" = 100' and the final board was required to be presented in a 30" x 40" format. Click the image to view the PDF.
