The objective of this assignment was to understand the history of a still life in an art history context. We were required to create a finished drawing of a contemporary still life of food or food related items. Within this still life we were required to apply our cumulative drawing skills. We were asked to set up and photograph a still life and then work from this photo to fully develop a drawing that also conveyed the illusion of depth.
I created my still life to help convey the problem of food waste in American in a urgent but visually compelling way. I attempted to create depth by activating the foreground, middle ground and background of the drawing. You can view my full artist statement here.
